RECON 2006 - Day 1 - Wrapup
Author: AlexIonescu # Views: 1659

I have to say that I was amazed by the conference today... the organizers are really fun and nice (got a free tshirt!) and really open to our needs... and all the people here have been extremly friendly and fun.

I expected this kind of conference to be filled with evil corporate managers trying to see how to protect their company... maybe there are some, but I haven't met any. Instead, I found a sea of expert, technical people each working on their interesting projects.

As for the talks, Day 1 was pretty "generic". Not that it's a bad thing or anything, it's just the main tone I've seen today. By far, for me, the most interesting generic one was Bunnie's, who gave a lovely course on Hardware Reverse Engineering and Patching. The Wifi breaking talk was interesting, but the 3000$-450000$ pricetag got me uninterested.

There was one standout non-generic talk of course, and that's Pedram's PaiMei. Before the talk, I was afraid it would be too specific for typical security-related reverse engineering, but it comes with a load of features that make my life (a reverse-engineer for interoperability) much easier.

Day 2 has started and I'll be blogging about it tomorrow.
