Forums >>  IDA Pro  >>  Newbie Q: imperfect disassembly?

Topic created on: November 6, 2008 03:56 CST by BurningSteel .

Hi, I am pretty new to IDA PRO and I am interested in making a working disassembly of a file.  Why does IDA output a few(only a few) nonsense instructions in the disassembly that are not supported by the microprocessor (68000 Motorola)?

If you do not want to explain it, or it has been explained somewhere else could you link me to it?

Thank you for your patience in advance.

Your question is not really clear, but have you tried contacting support with the details?

Let me rephrase the question.  Can IDA output an .asm file that cannot be assembled by the MP?

No, I have not tried contacting their support.  Depending on the answer I may, if this seems to be a problem with IDA.

Microprocessors don't assemble .asm files, assemblers do. It's possible that your assembler does not support some instructions that are used in the program. Or maybe IDA needs to represent some locations of the program that cannot be defined in the assembly. Anyway, it's pretty hard to tell without seeing examples, and contacting support should get you proper answers.
