Ok, i don twant to tread on any walked ground but i was wondering if people could provide an exhaustive list of the OSS/commercial/etc tools they commonly use in reverse engineering.

I am aware that many instances of reversing require custom scripts/tools/programs in order to fully extract useful information, but a 'toolkit' of sorts would be a great asset.

I am sure that people here will know tools that other folks havent come across, and their introduction will be of great use. You'll be helping.

Example:/

IDA Pro  //comm dissasembly platform
softICE  // lowlevel debuger
ollyDBG // ring 3 debugger
hexDump // hexeditor

I've heard of people talk about things like PEExplorer, but in my professional experience as a malware researcher/reverse engineer i've never actually had ot use it. It'd be interesting to get some comments on the tools too, and see how useful they might be..

Some of the ones I use on a daily basis in the malware field in addition to the ones you've listed already:

Vmware - virtualized environment

PeTools - process dumping / pe editing

Imprec - import reconstruction

PeView - viewing pe data structures

Sysinternals - monitoring high level actions

Hexplorer - hex editor supporting common operations to decode bytes, xor, add, sub, etc

Editpad Pro - text/hex editor with full regular expression support

GCC / MinGW - compiling c/c++ plugins, utils, etc.

I'd add:
hiew / winhex - hex editors. hiew for fast patches
ethereal - sniffer
burp suite - http(s) proxy
sandboxie - light sandbox (faster to use than vmware)
unixutils / cygwin - you can't live without this :p

Here's the only reversing toolkit you'll ever need (and you can extend it yourself too!):
