iDEFENSE/VeriSign seeks an engineer to join the iDefense Rapid Response Team, based out Sterling, Virginia.  

The mission of the Rapid Response Team is as follows:

Perform research for rapid incident response, direct global cyber-threat escalations, conduct topical research, engage the media, and leverage proprietary intelligence to augment customers� risk management process.

This position compliments a small 24x7-availability team leveraging the skills of highly experienced engineers with a broad range of enterprise experience and technical research capabilities.  If you enjoy a challenge and are looking for an excellent opportunity to support the largest networks in the world, this job is for you!

REQUIREMENTS
* 5 + years of experience in Information Systems, Information Security, network or system administration.  
* Pressure Player � works well under pressure to rapidly generate highly accurate technical reports.
* Excellent English communication skills, verbal and written, with public speaking experience.
* Team player, able to lead and serve as needed to complete the team mission.
* Reverse engineering experience strongly preferred.
* 2+ years of malcode research preferred.
* Candidates must be self-starters, quick learners, detail-oriented and should feel comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy, deadline-driven environment.
* Candidates must be open to travel requirements, possess outstanding written and oral communication skills and have the ability to prioritize work.
* Candidates must recognize and deal appropriately with confidential and sensitive information and work and communicate effectively under normal and stressful situations.

REQUIRED SKILL SET
* In-depth knowledge of networking protocols in general and TCP/IP specifically.
* In depth Knowledge of the inner-workings of operating systems in general and UNIX & Microsoft specifically.
* Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and experience.

DESIRED SKILL SET
* CISSP certified
* Advanced degree in computer science or related field.
* In-depth knowledge of advanced programming concepts in data structures and algorithms.  
* In-depth knowledge of advanced programming languages such, but not limited to, C, Perl, JavaScript, PHP and Python.
* In-depth knowledge of the inner-workings of web servers in general and Apache and IIS specifically.
* In depth Knowledge of the inner-workings of general office application software: word processors, spreadsheets, desktop databases, presentation packages, web browsers, chat clients and email clients.
* Originality and creativity  
* Past speaking experience and publication of independent research.
