Topic created on: October 19, 2007 18:23 CDT by gimpy21 .

What is the proper way to create a PIDA file in the current state of PAIMEI. I used pida_dump.py as my example but die on pida.module() with this nice exception:

self.base      = MinEA() - 0x1000      # XXX - cheap hack
NameError: global name 'MinEA' is not defined

I've searched the forums, but I guess this is just assumed knowledge.

I haven't seen that particular issue, but I know I had problems producing .pida files for any large binary.  Anything >~0.7mb took forever to dump, and loading it in paimei was just as bad.  Attempting to use paimei for its intended purposes with that .pida file ultimately would result in the instrumented application crashing.

  If you're instrumenting a large binary, that may be part of your problem.

A silly question, but just in case. Are you running pida_dump.py from inside IDA with IDAPython? it won't run otherwise.

And a silly question saves the day! No, sadly I was unaware of that very important point. It looked like I just needed to point the script to an .idc file and it would make the .pida from that. Thanks for the fix!

No worries, the first time I ran it, I did the exact same thing :)

I am facing the same problem.
I executed script inside IDA pro 5.1 with IDAPyton installed but gives me the same above error my question is

How we should point the script to an .idc file?

Thanks
