Forums >>  Brainstorms - General  >>  Looking for a good hex editor

Topic created on: October 17, 2007 20:42 CDT by lafkuku .

I find myself needing to quickly edit files sometimes to change a byte or two. I'm looking for a good hex editor, any suggestions?

Well HexWorkshop ($$$) is awesome, but I use XVI32 as an editor to do any quick tasks.

I use 'fed'.  As far as I know it's freely available.  Here's an article that talks about it:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan04/articles/pcmusician.htm

I didn't have any luck finding a place to download it.  I believe it's free.  It's made by a guy named 'phillip nickell'.  Version 1.65.3, the md5 for the exes is:

FED.EXE                                        ca40690717bff2230e5db5e17dd6ed6c
FEDSETUP.EXE                                   af60de5fbe39631b72bdb27a2126119b

... and those two files are all you need.

Thanks guys. I'll give some of these a try! Seems like everyone likes a different one, guess it's more a matter of taste, then a "standard" one ;).
