I'm wondering if people would be willing to share favorite RE challenges.  I'm thinking unpacking demos, cracking challenges, interesting malicious code, that kind of thing.  Just looking for some disassembly entertainment.

Hi Ryan,

Not sure if this is what you're after, but http://www.crackmes.de/ has a wide range of challenges.

Cheers,

Steve

We may start a regular reversing challenge put together by Nicolas Brulez. It's dependant on whether or not he has the time however.

Steve, yes that's very much the kind of thing I'm looking for, thank you.

Pedram, I hope that Nico will include a challenge at some point that mere mortals can solve. :)  I do enjoy seeing his advanced stuff too, though.

Hi Ryan,

http://www.reverser-course.de
aka
http://ilias.universitas-virtualis.org/login.php

will contain a complete training course for RCE. From very easy up to very hard. It is opened in about 4-6 weeks.

http://www.crackmes.de has many challenges for you, as well http://opencrackmes.crackmes.de has a huge collection of crackmes over the last 10 years.

http://crackmes.de/users/eldad_eilam/defender.exe/ might be interesting, it is written by Eldad Eilam (Author of Reversing: Secrets of Reverse Engineering)

If Nico is doing a challenge, it would be a great idea to add some more "malicious" code examples.

Please forgive my ignorance, but how does one register to be able to access the course information at
http://www.reverser-course.de
aka
http://ilias.universitas-virtualis.org/login.php

I know it is not open yet, but how can one register?

Thanks,
-Q

http://www.hackquest.de/ has a wide variety of hacking puzzles ranging from reverse engineering to encrypting to social engineering, and is a lot of fun to work through.

Hello!
I was browsing the net trying to find a nice reversing challenge without luck, do you know something about The Honeynet Project? It's a great site, full of interesting "scans" but seems like they didn't update it anymore...

>We may start a regular reversing challenge
The idea is quite interesting. I think it's a *must* for the OpenRCE site.

>but http://www.crackmes.de/ has a wide range of challenges.
Yes but most of them are really easy...

Sorry for keeping this thread alive but I don't want to create a new one.

Best regards,
foreigner

I've been in talks with a few people regarding setting up a challenge. Hopefully something will materialize in the next month or so.

Lack of time has been a general problem recently keeping me from pushing various people to push content to the site. So consider this a general call for content ... ;-)

Recently the CSRRT-LU has lauched a "malware contest":

Also, it's nice to see that more challenges are coming ;)
