Switching gears to a save game file now.

Is the repeating pattern within a 0x474(1140) byte data block.  There are 2 different 0x14 byte patterns that break the pattern in 2 different locations.

Does a repeating pattern like so usually mean anything as far as compression or encryption?

Likely not encryption, but could for compression.  Run length encoding perhaps?

Plus, if it is a save game file there is likely no reason to encrypt it as it would add unneeded overhead.

I hope so.  But I have another file from the same save game folder that I'm pretty sure is encrypted.  Nowadays its not uncommon as most developers are trying to discourage save game hacking.  The original Xbox game saves used digital signatures, that where eventually cracked.  Maybe I'll test out some of the methods of deciphering run length encoding by hand this weekend.  Just for kicks.
