Forums >>  Brainstorms - General  >>  Create Windows Desktop need Visual Switch?

Topic created on: March 1, 2007 16:19 CST by mpompeo .

Hello,
I wonder if creating another desktop (which is almost Vista solution) for an application for protecting it against WM attacks does cause a visual 'switch' in Xp/2k. I mean, do I see an application created with another desktop as if I were running it under my current desktop? Or do I need to somehow 'switch' the whole windows desktop view?

Regards,

A Desktop in the Windows sense of the word, is a logical display surface. The visual Desktop the user sees is called the "Input Desktop". You can switch a virtual Desktop to be the Input Desktop by using SwitchDesktop (with the appropriate privilages in place).

Yes, but in that case I think I lose the current desktop surface the user is seeing -which is not useful unless you go full-screen.
I want Desktop isolation without actually switching user's desktop view. From Winapi, it seems that switching desktop means switching whole user's view (a bit like switching between user's account). But this result seems unattainable to me in winXP by i.e. switching desktop. Am I wrong?
