I'm using version 6.1 and cannot figure out how to do this in IDA. I am debugging the boot process and use the gdb stub with VMware. I know how to do this in WinDBG (by using .writemem), but not in IDA (and I can't use WinDBG to dump this executable). I've tried gdb commands (dump binary ..), but IDA says it is not supported. Am I missing something obvious? If it makes any difference, I can switch to use the BOCHS plugin in disk image mode.
