Forums >>  Brainstorms - General  >>  suggestions - RE training courses

Topic created on: March 9, 2010 01:20 CST by enm16 .

I am new to the field and trying to get a jumpstart on my learning by attending a training course.  The two prominent courses I have come across are the SANS 610 course (http://www.sans.org/security-training/reverse-engineering-malware-malware-analysis-tools-and-techniques-54-mid) and the InfoSec Institute RE course (http://www.infosecinstitute.com/courses/reverse_engineering_training.html).

Both offer certifications...I'm wondering if anyone has experience or info about the worth of these (or any other) courses.  I have pulled together several references and tools to learn on my own, but I am hoping to supplement my start with some organized training.  Any suggestions/opinions are welcome :)

Thanks!

Don't take the InfoSec Institute RE course; allow me to immodestly suggest one of the offerings at RECon this summer.

SANS SEC/FOR610 materials are very well made and quite up to date, don't know about the certification though.

Thanks for the advice...I don't think I'll be able to make RECon this summer, unfortunately - I'm living overseas and basically limited to online options only.

What is wrong with the InfoSec course?  I have taken SANS training before (and it was great) but I have compared SANS 610 with the InfoSec course and InfoSec looked like the better option.  I would be interested to hear your opinion because I will be attending the InfoSec course soon.
